Affordable housing ‘an urgent problem’ says Grand Jury report
–The San Luis Obispo County Grand Jury recently released the report “Affordable Housing, An Urgent Problem For Our Community.”
The report examines the shortage of affordable housing in San Luis Obispo County. The report first clarifies what the term affordable housing means, then goes on to the define other commonplace terminology, some of which has legal standing, related to housing affordability.
The housing cost dilemma is not a phenomenon isolated to this county nor to this state. The County of San Luis Obispo as well as the seven cities within the county have ordinances intended to produce affordable housing through several means. The jury reviewed those ordinances, and interviewed local officials from both government and the private sector.
The full transcript of the report can be found at: https://www.slo.courts.ca.gov/gi/jury- grandjury.htm. This website also provides information on how to apply to become a Grand Juror. It also has the “Grand Jury Citizen Complaint Form” available for the public to submit complaints regarding county issues to the jury.
