Adventist Health adds 3D mammography, online scheduling for imaging
Same-week screening appointments available at San Luis Obispo imaging center
– Adventist Health has added a new 3D mammography system at Adventist Health Imaging in San Luis Obispo, with same-week screening appointments available, and is expanding online scheduling for some imaging services, the organization announced Thursday as Breast Cancer Awareness Month begins.
The new GE Pristina Via system creates detailed three-dimensional images of breast tissue, allowing radiologists to examine the breast in thin layers and reducing the problem of overlapping tissue that can occur with conventional two-dimensional mammography, according to Adventist Health. The system also includes faster image capture, ergonomic positioning, and patient-assisted compression under the guidance of a mammography technologist.
“Our goal is to make high-quality care easier to access right here on the Central Coast,” said Ryan Ashlock, Adventist Health Central Coast Network President. “Making time for an important screening mammogram should be as simple and convenient as possible. This investment gives our physicians advanced technology while making it easier for patients to get the care they need.”
Established patients with MyChart access can now schedule eligible screening mammography appointments online. Eligible X-ray appointments can also be scheduled through MyChart once an order has been placed. Patients can still schedule by phone.
“Early detection can make a meaningful difference,” Ashlock said. “We want to make it as easy as possible for patients to prioritize their health. Same-week appointments and convenient online scheduling are important parts of improving that access.”
