We Are Atascadero Pride to host National Coming Out Day picnic Oct. 11
Free community picnic at Atascadero Lake Park is open to everyone
– We Are Atascadero Pride will host a National Coming Out Day picnic from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 11, at Atascadero Lake Park.
The organization invites the community to gather, share food, meet neighbors, make new friends, and celebrate community at the picnic. Attendees are invited to bring a friend and their own picnic to the free event.
According to the organization, National Coming Out Day is observed each year on Oct. 11 and recognizes the courage of LGBTQ+ people who choose to live openly, while also acknowledging that coming out is a personal journey that happens differently for everyone.
“Coming out can be a joyful moment, a difficult journey, or something that simply isn’t right for someone yet,” said Thom Waldman, founder and president of We Are Atascadero Pride. “National Coming Out Day gives us an opportunity to say that wherever you are on that journey, there is a community here for you. Everyone is welcome.”
The organization said the event reflects its broader mission of creating year-round opportunities for LGBTQ+ people, families, friends, allies, and neighbors to connect throughout Atascadero and North County.
