California Highway Patrol to hold sobriety, driver license checkpoint Saturday
Checkpoint will take place somewhere within San Luis Obispo County
– The California Highway Patrol Templeton Area will conduct a driving under the influence and driver license safety checkpoint Saturday, Sept. 26, somewhere within San Luis Obispo County.
According to the highway patrol, the goal of the checkpoint is to ensure the safe passage of each motorist by targeting roads where there is a high frequency of intoxicated or unlicensed drivers. The agency describes sobriety and driver license checkpoints as a tool designed to augment existing patrol operations.
Officers will check vehicles for drivers who are under the influence of alcohol or drugs or who are driving while unlicensed. The highway patrol said its objective is to send a clear message to those who consider driving and mixing alcohol or drugs, or who drive while unlicensed, that they will be caught and their vehicles will be towed away.
A grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, funded the program.
The highway patrol will release the exact location of the checkpoint no earlier than 5 p.m. Sept. 26.
