Obituary of Jennifer ‘Jeni’ Minton, 49
Jennifer “Jeni” Minton.
– Jennifer “Jeni” Minton, beloved daughter of Rick and Debbie Minton, died unexpectedly of natural causes on September 15, 2026, the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows. She had just celebrated her 49th birthday on September 4.
Jeni will be deeply missed by her mom and dad; her sisters, Michelle and Courtney, Courtney’s wife, Kelley; her Uncle Ron; and her cousins Stacey, Eric, Stephanie and Brenda. Jeni will also be missed by the dedicated staff at New Heights Ventures, a supported living program in Santa Maria, California, where Jeni was living at the time of her death. New Heights allowed Jeni to live her dream of living in the community with daily support from dedicated staff to assist her.
Jennifer was born with a rare chromosomal disorder called Tetrasomy X, which created many challenges throughout her life. But Jeni met those challenges with determination and accomplished so much. She graduated from Paso Robles High School and after learning her Catholic faith she received her First Communion and Confirmation.
Jeni was a successful Special Olympics athlete, her favorite sport was Special Olympics softball, with her pink glove, pink bat and pink helmet. Jeni learned to snow-ski at an early age, rode horses, competed in horse shows, and showed both a lamb and a hog at the California Mid-State Fair.
But Jeni’s greatest love was animals. She had a horse named Ranger, whom she called her best friend for many years. Even after Ranger died, Jeni would say she was going to, “Pray to Ranger, my best friend, and he will help me”, get through whatever difficulty she was going through. She also loved her dogs, Goldie and Chantel, her cats Patch and Punchy.
Jeni’s special love for dogs stayed with her throughout her life. As an adult living with disabilities, she had long hoped that someday she would have a service dog of her own. It is especially fitting, then, that one of the ways Jeni can be remembered is by helping make that possibility a reality for others.
Jeni also knew how to have fun. She loved going to the casinos and Universal Studios, and she loved listening and dancing to hip-hop and rap music. She loved the color pink, and whenever she could, had bright pink hair and nails.
We are sure Jeni was met at the gates of Heaven by those who loved her so greatly during their lives: her Mimi and Boppa Minton; Grandma and Grandpa Jim Shireman; Aunt Jane, Aunt Jeannie and Uncle Hugh and Auntie Donna and Uncle Jim. We can only imagine the reunion – and we know Ranger was there waiting for his best friend too.
A Celebration of Life for Jeni will be held Friday, September 25, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church, 221 Daly Avenue, San Luis Obispo, California. WEAR PINK!
