– Retro Bill visited Carrisa Plains Elementary School this week, presenting a one-hour program that used role-playing, props, and comedy to teach students about making healthy choices, citizenship, diversity, and leadership, according to the Atascadero Unified School District newsletter.
Retro Bill, whose name is Bill Russ, entered the room wearing retro-style clothing and a pompadour, prompting laughter from students.
The program used a comedy style reminiscent of Jim Carrey to address serious subjects and keep students engaged throughout the presentation.
The lessons encouraged students to make healthy choices, be peacebuilders, celebrate diversity, and be leaders by being outstanding citizens.
Students were also encouraged to shine in their own unique way, recognize that every day is a gift, and understand that they are the stars in their own lives.
The program also emphasized the Golden Rule: “Treat others the way you want to be treated!”
