Woods Humane Society announces foster drive, 2-for-1 kitten adoptions

Woods Humane Society aims to help as many kittens as possible during National Kitten Day weekend, this Friday, July 10 through Sunday, July 12, 2026, with its “Foster the Love” kitten season awareness event.

The weekend-long promotion features two-for-one kitten adoptions as well as a foster drive and a foster supply drive, taking place at both Woods locations, in San Luis Obispo and Atascadero.

“We are at the height of kitten season, and our shelters are full of adoptable kittens in need of loving homes,” says Woods CEO Emily L’Heureux, explaining that Woods currently has 35 kittens available for adoption between its two locations, with another 53 in foster care, and more waiting to enter the foster program. “In order to manage the demand and help as many kittens as possible, we hope this weekend’s event will encourage people in this community to consider adopting, signing up to become a foster volunteer, or donating much-needed foster care supplies.”

Adoption fees for kittens (under the age of 5 months) are typically $150 per kitten, which includes a spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinations, parasite treatment, and a free wellness exam at a local veterinarian. From July 10-12, adopters can adopt two kittens for $150, ensuring each kitten has a feline buddy to help them acclimate and thrive in their new home.

For those who are not sure about adopting, Woods says fostering is a great way to help. “If you have the space in your home, the time to care for an animal temporarily, and a willingness to learn, we encourage you to sign up to become a foster volunteer,” says L’Heureux. “Fosters receive all training, supplies, and medical support from Woods. The work is not only very personally rewarding, but it saves lives and brings joy and love to adoptive families on the Central Coast.”

Locals can find more information about fostering, sign up to become a foster, or read more about needed supplies at https://woodshumanesociety.org/get-involved/foster/. Chief among the program’s wish-list supply items are Royal Canin Mother & Babycat Cat Food, Sunbeam heating pads, SnuggleSafe Original Microwave Heat Pad for Pets, The Miracle Nipple for Pets, and Ultrean Food Scales. Woods will also have foster drive booths at Lemos Feed & Pet Supply in Morro Bay and Atascadero on Saturday, July 11 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Woods Humane Society’s San Luis Obispo shelter is located at 875 Oklahoma Ave., San Luis Obispo, CA 93405 with adoption hours from 12- 4 p.m., and its North County shelter is located at 2300 Ramona Rd., Atascadero, CA 93422 with adoption hours from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. For more information about Woods, visit www.WoodsHumane.org or call (805) 543-9316.
