Mid-State Fair seeks competitors for agricultural events
Horse show registration closes June 25, while Quiz Jam entries remain open through June 30
– The California Mid-State Fair is encouraging community members to register for a variety of agricultural and equestrian competitions taking place during this year’s Fair, which runs July 15-26 at the Paso Robles Event Center.
Horse show entries, including the Country Rodeo, Reined Cow Horse, RSNC Sorting, 4-H and FFA horse shows, and the new Ladies Open Breakaway and Walk This Way Ranch Riding and Trail Challenge, close Thursday, June 25.
Registration for Quiz Jam closes Tuesday, June 30.
The Fair said the competitions allow participants to take part in agricultural traditions through events focused on agriculture, horsemanship, teamwork, and competition.
Quiz Jam takes place Sunday, July 19. The event features hands-on agricultural challenges that may include ear tagging, tractor activities, plant identification, and other activities. Pee Wee participants, ages 5-8, compete individually, while Junior participants, ages 9-13, and Senior participants, ages 14-18, compete in teams of four. No livestock experience is required. Participants receive a Frito Boat meal, a drawstring bag, and other items.
Farmers Olympics takes place Monday, July 20, at the Hearst Equestrian Center. The event features farm-inspired team challenges that test teamwork, speed, and problem-solving. Advance registration is not required. Teams should arrive at 4 p.m.
The new Walk This Way Ranch Riding and Trail Challenge debuts Tuesday, July 21. The event combines a ranch riding pattern with natural obstacles.
The new Ladies Open Breakaway competition takes place Wednesday, July 22, and provides female ropers an opportunity to compete.
Junior Gymkhana takes place Friday, July 17. Riders compete in timed events focused on speed, control, and horsemanship.
The California Mid-State Fair Horse Show includes Country Rodeo, Reined Cow Horse, RSNC Sorting, and 4-H and FFA horse shows. Organizers encourage new competitors to review the handbook before entering.
Country Rodeo qualifying events will take place throughout Fair week, giving contestants the opportunity to qualify for the Country Rodeo Finals.
“These events are a great example of what makes the Fair special,” said Fair Chief Executive Officer Colleen Bojorquez. “They give people the opportunity to step out of the stands and into the action. Whether you’re competing with friends in Farmers Olympics, showing your horse, or participating in Quiz Jam, you’re not just attending the Fair — you’re helping create it, and we all love that.”
