Funding will support home repair and accessibility programs

Habitat for Humanity San Luis Obispo County announced it received a $20,000 grant from Columbia Bank to support the organization’s Home Preservation Program.

The grant will help fund programs that assist local homeowners, including seniors, veterans, and families, with critical repairs, accessibility improvements, and home safety projects designed to help residents remain in their homes.

“We are incredibly grateful to Columbia Bank for their commitment to strengthening our community,” said Anthony Overton, chief executive officer of Habitat for Humanity San Luis Obispo County. “This investment helps ensure that our neighbors—many of whom have lived in their homes for decades—can continue to do so safely and comfortably.”

According to the organization, the Home Preservation Program includes Aging in Place, Critical Home Repair, A Brush with Kindness Restoration, and Home Maintenance Education programs.

The Aging in Place program provides accessibility modifications, safety improvements, and repairs intended to support mobility and reduce fall risks. Critical Home Repair addresses health and safety concerns, including repairs intended to restore habitability and reduce wildfire risk through defensible space improvements.

A Brush with Kindness Restoration focuses on exterior home improvements, while Home Maintenance Education provides homeowners with information and tools intended to support long-term home care.

“At Columbia Bank, we are proud to support organizations like Habitat for Humanity SLO County that are making a meaningful difference in the lives of local families,” said Andrew Tweedie, community impact director at Columbia Bank. “Habitat SLO’s Home Preservation Program is a vital resource that helps protect homeowners and preserve the fabric of our community.”

Habitat for Humanity San Luis Obispo County said the program serves homeowners who are unable to complete critical repairs independently because of financial limitations.

More information about the organization’s programs, volunteer opportunities, and Home Preservation Program applications is available at Habitat for Humanity San Luis Obispo County.
