City of Atascadero announces Tamale Festival winners

Mary’s Cuisine Catering earns best overall tamale award
– The City of Atascadero announced the winners of the 10th annual Tamale Festival, which featured more than 100 vendors, including 23 vendors specializing in tamales from local restaurants and across California.
The festival included a Best Tamale Contest, a tamale eating contest, and a chihuahua and pet costume contest.

In the Best Tamale Contest, Mary’s Cuisine Catering of San Luis Obispo won best overall tamale.
In the traditional tamale category, La Luz Del Mundo of Victorville took first place, Mary’s Cuisine Catering of San Luis Obispo placed second, and La Luz Del Mundo of Madera placed third.
In the chihuahua and pet costume contest, Chloe and Paco, owned by Angela Flores, received the best overall award
In the gourmet tamale category, Mary’s Cuisine Catering of San Luis Obispo placed first, Savina’s Homemade Tamales of Santa Maria placed second, and Beth’s Tamales of Santa Maria placed third.
In the tamale eating contest for participants ages 12 and older, Anthony Elisarraras took first place, and Addisyn Masallo placed second. In the category for participants ages 11 and younger, Aden Nunez took first place, and Jaylee Elvira Silva placed second.
