Firefighter Wendy Watkins to be honored at April 18 service

– The Cal Fire San Luis Obispo Unit announced a celebration of life for firefighter Wendy Watkins, who died at her home in Paso Robles on March 19 after a long battle with job-related cancer.
Watkins’ death is a loss to the San Luis Obispo Unit, the state fire agency, and those who worked with her, according to the announcement.
A celebration of life will be held on April 18 at 1 p.m. at Santa Margarita Ranch, 9000 Yerba Buena Ave. in Santa Margarita. The event will take place in northern San Luis Obispo County and will be open to the public and first responders at the family’s request.
Department company officers attending are asked to wear Class A uniforms. Class B uniforms with a tie are acceptable for those arriving on fire apparatus or for firefighters without a Class A uniform.
Watkins is remembered for her service and impact on fellow firefighters and the community, according to the announcement.
Organizers thanked the fire service community for its support during this time.
