– Creston resident Jessica Puccinelli has announced the release of her children’s book, “Maverick Speaks in Songs,” in honor of Autism Awareness Month.
The book, released March 27, introduces young readers to different communication styles and focuses on inclusion. It is listed as a No. 1 bestseller for new releases in its Amazon category.
“I wrote this book to show all children that there’s no one ‘right’ way to communicate,” Puccinelli said. “I hope it helps kids develop empathy, understanding, and acceptance for differences in their peers.”

Puccinelli, a local author and parent, based the book on her experiences with her son. The story highlights how children use augmentative and alternative communication, sign language, and music to communicate.
“Maverick Speaks in Songs” is a children’s picture book that focuses on neurodiversity and serves as a resource for families, teachers, and caregivers. It is available on Amazon.
Puccinelli will host an Inclusive Playdate and Book Reading and Signing on May 2 at 10:15 a.m. at Joy Playground in Atascadero. The event will include sensory-friendly play, an interactive storytime, and an opportunity to meet the author and have books signed.
Puccinelli lives in Creston and drew inspiration from her family’s experiences in the community. The book reflects the experiences of local families and aims to provide a resource for children, parents, and educators navigating neurodiverse experiences.
