Woman hospitalized with arm injury after reported assault

San Luis Obispo Police arrested a 54-year-old San Luis Obispo man Sunday in connection with a reported domestic violence stabbing incident on Monterey Street.

Officers were first dispatched Friday to the 900 block of Monterey Street following a report of a stabbing. Police located a 65-year-old woman inside her apartment with a significant injury to her arm that officers said was consistent with being struck with a straight-edged object. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Detectives determined the woman had been injured by her partner, Matthew Dylan Jones, who also lived at the apartment and fled before officers arrived.

Police returned to the residence Saturday to attempt contact with the victim and discovered Jones was back inside the apartment with her but refused to open the door. Officers made several attempts to reach Jones by telephone, but he was uncooperative and eventually stopped responding.

Due to the violent nature of the original incident, police activated the San Luis Obispo Regional SWAT team. Jones was taken into custody without incident Sunday at about 8:21 a.m.

Jones was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon and felony domestic violence. Bail was set at $50,000.
