Burn season opens Jan. 12 for Atascadero residents
Permits required as daily burn status depends on weather conditions
– The Fire Hazard Reduction Burn Season will open Jan. 12 for Atascadero residents, according to Atascadero Fire & Emergency Services.
Burn day status changes daily and is determined by the California Air Resources Board and North County weather conditions. Burning is not allowed within five days of measurable rain.
Permits are required and are available free online at www.beforeyouburn.com and through the Before You Burn mobile application for iPhone and Android devices. The app allows residents to schedule burn days, check current conditions, receive alerts, and view local wind and moisture forecasts.

The fire department will determine whether burning is allowed within the city before 8 a.m. each day. Daily burning status, including open, closed, information, and warnings, will be posted to the application and the Before You Burn website. Staff will also update the burn line message daily at (805) 461-5070 Ext. 8. If conditions change, the fire department may send text messages to residents who have a burn scheduled that day.

Atascadero Fire & Emergency Services encourages residents to use alternative disposal methods, including Waste Alternatives’ green waste recycling container or the Chicago Grade Landfill. Burning is intended to be used as a last resort.
