Downtown Atascadero launches ‘Holiday Window Wars’ art competition
Businesses and artists may sign up to participate
– Downtown Atascadero businesses and local artists will participate in a new community art event this December called Paint the Downtown – Holiday Window Wars. Business storefronts will be painted with holiday displays during the weekend of Dec. 6 and Dec. 7, with the public invited to watch artists complete the work.
Beginning Dec. 8, the public will be able to vote for their favorite window design on the Downtown Atascadero website. Each participating business will display a window number and a QR code linking to the voting page. The winning business and artist team will receive recognition.
All downtown Atascadero businesses are eligible to participate. Artists from local high schools, fine arts programs, and the professional art community have expressed interest. Businesses that decorate their own windows may enter the competition.

Artists may apply at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdUGlBDEO1Z3GasWmAsG76vdaMe5phnk0FxxlC-C6pfbG6Xmg/viewform.
Businesses may request an artist through the participation form, decorate their own window and enter the contest, or opt out for the year. Artists who sign up will submit a preliminary design for approval before being paired with a business. Paint and basic supplies will be provided through The Artery and funding from the Business Improvement District. Participants may bring additional window-safe materials that can be removed and cleaned.
A printable map of participating businesses will be shared with the community.
Paint Weekend will take place Dec. 6 and Dec. 7, when artists will paint throughout Friday and Saturday. The schedule follows the downtown Sip ’n Shop.
Online voting will take place from Dec. 8 through Dec. 14 on the Downtown Atascadero website. All windows must be completed by Winter Wonderland, held on Friday, Dec. 12. Madison Quiring will build the voting page, and each business will receive an official QR code.
Planning meetings are ongoing, and businesses and artists are invited to participate. Community members seeking involvement may contact the organizing team or connect with Alecia at The Pottery.
