Reindeer Run supports student scholarships
Holiday costumes encouraged for participants and attendees
– The County of San Luis Obispo Friday Night Live Partnership announced the return of the Reindeer Run 5K. The event will take place on Dec. 6 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Mitchell Park in San Luis Obispo. The run invites participants to join the holiday-themed 5K to support scholarships for high school seniors in the county who are active in Friday Night Live chapters.
Tickets are $30 per person, with children under 5 admitted for free. Meal tickets are $5 for those who do not wish to run. Day-of tickets increase to $35 per person. Attendees are encouraged to wear holiday attire and enter the costume contest. Raffle giveaways and holiday activities will take place after the race. Proceeds fund scholarships for high school seniors pursuing higher education and leadership development.
“FNL is meant to provide a fun, safe and accepting space for students to not only build meaningful relationships with peers and trusted adults but to become empowered leaders by building their skills and understanding in leadership advocacy, mental health, and substance use,” said Friday Night Live Coordinator Katherine Gross.

The program has chapters at eleven middle schools and ten high schools in the county. Last year’s run raised funds to support 10 high school seniors with college scholarships.
“FNL represents a safe space for me and the community. It is a place where I can hang out, make new friends, learn, and foster new skills,” said one program member. “Not only that, but I think it also helps teach people the importance of mental health, and the dangers of drug use at one of the most impressionable times in their lives.”
Registration is available until noon on Dec. 5. To sign up for the race or volunteer, visit slofnl.com.
