Templeton pushes toward deep run in Central Section playoffs

Senior Tyler Cunningham leads Templeton offense into postseason

– The Templeton High School football team is among five San Luis Obispo County teams set to play Friday night in the second round of the CIF Section Playoffs.

The Eagles host Coalinga after receiving a bye in the first round. The undefeated Eagles (10-0) are the No. 1 seed in Division IV and will play at home throughout the playoffs.

Senior running back Tyler Cunningham has run the ball well against every opponent. Cunningham will join the Yale University football team next season. Junior quarterback Colter Tannehill also has a strong future, but he has another season with the Eagles. And this season is far from over for Templeton. Coach Don Crow may lead them deep into the CIF Central Section playoffs.

San Luis Obispo, Morro Bay, Arroyo Grande, and Nipomo also advanced to the second round Friday night. Arroyo Grande (7-4) will play at home against Garces Memorial of Bakersfield (7-4). San Luis Obispo, Morro Bay, and Nipomo will travel to face higher-seeded opponents in Visalia, Madera, and Reedley, respectively.

San Luis Obispo (7-4) plays the Redwood Rangers (8-2) at the Mineral King Bowl in Visalia. Both Morro Bay (4-7) and Nipomo (7-4) will face undefeated teams: Liberty (11-0) and Immanuel (10-0).

The winners advance to the next round. The losers are done for the season.
