Atascadero’s Albert Almodova named Champion of the Community

Statewide recognition highlights Almodova’s longtime service to Atascadero

– The California Park & Recreation Society District 8 named Albert Almodova the Champion of the Community, according to the City of Atascadero. District 8 represents Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo counties.

City officials said the honor recognizes individuals for commitment, service, and dedication to community life. For more than a decade, Almodova has assisted with city events and youth programs, including the snow slide at Winter Wonderland, logistics for the Colony Days Parade, cooking for Tuesday Night BBQs and Veterans Memorial events, operating the Burger Shack at the California Mid State Fair, and supporting the Tamale Festival and the Atascadero Kiwanis and Mayors’ Winemaker Dinner.

Almodova, known as “Mr. Atascadero,” is a long-time member and former lieutenant governor of the Kiwanis Club of Atascadero. He has supported academic and vocational scholarships, mentored students through Key Club, and transported youth to leadership conferences and service projects, including helping build a Rose Parade float.

“Albert truly represents the heart and spirit of Atascadero,” said Mayor Charles Bourbeau, “His energy, kindness, and unwavering commitment to our community inspire everyone who has the privilege of working alongside him. We are incredibly proud to see him recognized as the Champion of the Community, an honor he has more than earned through years of service and dedication.”

“Albert is one of those rare individuals who leads through action and generosity,” said City Manager Jim Lewis. “Whether it’s a major city event or a small act of kindness behind the scenes, he’s always there to lend a hand. His contributions have strengthened the fabric of our community, and we are so grateful to have him as part of the City of Atascadero family.”

Each year, District 8 invites cities in the tri-county area to nominate one individual for community service and enrichment. One recipient is selected for the region. Award recipients from District 8 will be submitted for the State-level awards.
