Sheriff program seeks donations for Christmas bicycle giveaway

Donations of new bicycles, helmets, and funds now being accepted

– The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office is seeking donations for its Christmas Bicycle Giveaway, part of the Season of Sharing program now in its 36th year.

Since 1989, the program has provided refurbished bicycles and new helmets to children in need in San Luis Obispo County. The Sheriff’s Office Honor Farm serves as the assembly point for donated bicycles that need repair, and incarcerated persons housed at the Honor Farm complete the repairs. The program is intended to build work ethic, self-respect, and a sense of community contribution among participants.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to donate new bicycles, new helmets, or money for replacement parts. Adult bicycles will be accepted, but children’s bicycles are preferred due to higher demand.

Applications for children up to 15 years old are available at slosheriff.org under Community Resources, then Forms and Applications. Applications are due by Thursday, Nov. 20. The Christmas Bicycle Giveaway is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 10 at 9 a.m.

Donors may bring children’s bicycles or new helmets in original packaging to any Sheriff’s Office patrol station or to the Sheriff’s Office Honor Farm on Highway 1. Monetary contributions for the purchase of bicycles, parts, or helmets may be mailed to:

Sheriff’s Advisory Foundation
Attn: Bicycle Fund
P.O. Box 3752
San Luis Obispo, CA 93403
