New director named for Templeton High School drama program
Lacey “Mrs. Mac” McNamara.
– Templeton High School has named alumna Lacey “Mrs. Mac” McNamara as the new director of its drama program.
McNamara, a member of the Templeton High School class of 2003, participated in ASB, band, drama, mock trial, 4H, and choir during her years in the Templeton Unified School District. She also briefly played junior varsity tennis but focused her efforts on the arts.
For the past 20 years, she has taught private piano lessons and worked with theater companies in a variety of roles.
Her introduction to theater began as a child in Paso Robles, where she sat on her father’s trumpet case in the orchestra pit while he played for Pioneer Players productions. At age 7, she took the stage as Gretel von Trapp in The Sound of Music.
Over the years, she has played many roles, with favorites including the Baker’s Wife in Into the Woods, Marian Paroo in The Music Man, and Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd.
McNamara studied music at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo before transferring to the University of La Verne, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration. She is also a certified Music Together instructor.
She has performed and worked in multiple capacities with local theater organizations, including PCPA – Pacific Conservatory Theatre in Santa Maria and Solvang, The Great American Melodrama in Oceano, SLO Repertory Theatre, and Cambria Center for the Arts Theatre.
McNamara said she hopes to use her local theater connections to enhance the education of Templeton High School drama students.
She and her wife, Danielle, own Lyrics and Melodies Studio in Los Osos, where she continues to teach piano. Outside of teaching, she is a PADI certified divemaster, volunteers with youth at the GALA Pride and Diversity Center in San Luis Obispo, and spends time with her nieces and nephew, who call her “Aunt Ducky.”
Templeton High School’s fall production of Radium Girls opens Nov. 6 and runs through Nov. 15. More information is available on the Templeton High School Drama website.
