– The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a social media trend known as the “Door Kick Challenge” after receiving multiple reports of damage in Templeton over the weekend.
The challenge involves kids and teens kicking garage or front doors and then running away. Officials said several homes in Templeton reported damage, including to garage doors.
“This isn’t just a prank, it’s property damage and can result in criminal charges,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “It also puts residents at risk, especially if someone is home and startled by the noise or thinks someone is trying to break in.”
Deputies are asking parents to talk with their children about the possible consequences of participating.
“What may seem like a joke online can lead to lasting consequences in real life,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
Anyone who experiences the challenge at their home or has information about those involved is asked to contact the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office.
