Visitors tour San Luis Obispo County farms during Open Farm Days
More than 25 farms and makers opened their doors along the San Luis Obispo County Farm Trail
– Hundreds of people gathered across San Luis Obispo County on the weekend of June 20-22 for the 5th annual Open Farm Days. The event began with a Friday night marketplace at Paso Robles’ Downtown City Park. More than 25 farms and makers opened their doors along the San Luis Obispo County Farm Trail, offering activities including olive oil tastings, pig visits, beekeeping demonstrations, and gardening workshops.
Visitors met local farmers and learned about food production in the area. Guests explored local agriculture by observing beehives, walking through lavender fields, sampling local wines, tasting olive oils, crafting souvenirs, touring fields, and interacting with farm animals.
Organizers reported that the event drew both residents and visitors, with attendees participating in farm tours, workshops, demonstrations, tastings and other agricultural experiences. The event aimed to raise awareness of local family farms and support the agricultural community.
Farmstead ED coordinated the event, with contributions from participants including AmByth Estate, Ancient Peaks Winery, Brittany App Photography, City Farm SLO, Clearwater Color Nursery, DW Farms Native Plant Nursery, Fair Hills Farms, GT Olive Works, Giving Tree Family Farm, Green Love Elixir Bar, The Groves on 41, Hambly Farms, Hartley Farms, Harvestly, Kiler Ridge, Lazy Arrow Camatta Ranch, Leo Leo Gelato, Life Elements, MJ Family Farm, Margarita Adventures, Mighty Cap Mushrooms, North County Farmers Market, Olea Farm, Our Global Family Farm, San Luis Obispo County Farm Bureau, Sierra Honey Farm, Talley Farms Box, Templeton Olive Oil and Tiber Canyon.
Farmstead ED was founded in 2014 by Lynette Sonne to connect visitors and farmers through educational workshops and gatherings focused on local agriculture. The San Luis Obispo County Farm Trail was established in 2020 to link visitors with ranches, farms and producers through a printed and online map. Open Farm Days began in 2021 as part of that effort.
