Cambria will welcome back scarecrow festival with new creations

– The Cambria Scarecrow Festival will return this October, featuring handcrafted scarecrow displays throughout Cambria and San Simeon.

The festival, which began in 2009 with 30 scarecrows, has grown into a month-long event with more than 200 creations. Visitors can see scarecrows throughout Cambria Village, along Moonstone Drive, and on Castillo and Hearst Drives in San Simeon.

“This year’s festival brings fresh surprises with newly imagined characters alongside returning favorites,” said Patty Wallace Rixman, president of the Cambria Scarecrow Festival.

Returning displays include the interactive “Fun and Games” installation, the KISS band scarecrows in a farewell concert, and Blowin’, a scarecrow hanging onto a pole to avoid being swept away by the Cambria winds.

New this year is “Fantastical Cove” in San Simeon, an immersive exhibit featuring a sea serpent, a troll, a unicorn, and colorful mushrooms and gnomes.

“It’s always challenging coming up with new and exciting displays,” said Stephanie Vassigh, vice president of the Cambria Scarecrow Festival. “An incredible amount of work and creativity goes into making them. This year’s ‘Fantastical Cove’ is sure to be one of our best displays yet.”

The event is supported by local residents and businesses. Donations through the Friends of the Cambria Scarecrow Festival Program help fund the displays and allow individuals or organizations to adopt a scarecrow. Donations can be made at https://cambriascarecrows.com/give/.
