‘No Kings’ demonstration to be held in Atascadero June 14
Event will feature demonstrators, car rally, food collection
– Residents of Atascadero will gather for the “No Kings: Protect Our Democracy” event on Saturday, June 14, as part of a national day of mass mobilization. The event is expected to draw 850 to 1,000 participants and will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. at the intersection of El Camino Real and Morro Road.
“This event is about our community coming together to affirm that in America, the power belongs with the people,” said Linda Baker, Indivisible event coordinator. “We’ve created these No Kings: Protect Our Democracy actions to allow everyone to participate in a way that feels comfortable to them, whether that’s standing on street corners, driving by in decorated vehicles, or contributing to our food drive.”
The event will feature demonstrators at all four corners of the intersection with signs and American flags emphasizing democratic themes. For those who prefer to participate from their vehicles, a car rally will take place along El Camino Real. Organizers will also collect non-perishable food items for the El Camino Homeless Organization.
“We’re showing what real democracy looks like here in Atascadero,” said Cindy Lewis, co-chair of Indivisible North SLO County. “This isn’t about partisanship—it’s about standing up for the fundamental American principle that no one is above the law or beyond accountability.”
The demonstration will include an honorary street captain, Susan Funk, a member of the Atascadero City Council.
The event is part of the June 14 national day of action taking place in all 50 states. Those interested can register at https://www.mobilize.us/nokings/event/792808. For more information or to volunteer, contact Linda Baker at (805) 459-2403.
