Atascadero to launch new aquatics program in summer 2025
Aquatics program aims to benefit community and youth sports
– The City of Atascadero has announced the approval and upcoming launch of a new Aquatics Program, set to begin in Summer 2025. The City Council approved the program, which will offer a variety of recreational swimming and instructional opportunities for the community.
The city’s recreation team is working with the Atascadero High School Athletic Department to develop and implement the program. The aquatics program will run from June 16 through Aug. 8, operating Monday through Friday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. It will include open recreation swim, lap swim, Parent & Me classes, and swim lessons for Levels 1 through 4.
Atascadero High School is also creating a course to train and certify students as swim instructors and lifeguards, providing a direct pathway to staff the City’s program. This partnership is designed to ensure the community has access to quality aquatic services, while also offering students valuable certifications and summer job opportunities.
The city is currently recruiting for an Aquatics Coordinator, and qualified candidates are encouraged to apply.
The return of aquatics programming was identified as a priority during the Measure D-20 Sales Tax discussions. Funding from this measure will support the program’s launch and operation.
