County to host free ‘clean slate clinic’ later this month
Clinic will assist eligible individuals with criminal record expungement, felony reduction, and arrest record sealing
– The San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office and community partners will host a free Clean Slate Clinic on March 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the San Luis Obispo County Law Library, located at 1050 Monterey St. #125.
The clinic will assist eligible individuals with criminal record expungement, felony reduction, and arrest record sealing. The goal is to help remove barriers to employment and housing for those affected by past convictions.
California law allows individuals to obtain record relief if they meet specific conditions. The clinic will provide assistance to those who qualify.
This marks the fourth time local organizations have collaborated on the event. Participating groups include the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office, San Luis Obispo County Probation Department, San Luis Obispo Defenders, Restorative Partners, People’s Justice Project, California Rural Legal Assistance, and San Luis Obispo College of Law.
The California Policy Lab estimates that nearly one in eight Californians with a criminal record may be eligible for full expungement. An estimated 81% of Californians with a criminal record qualify to have at least one prior arrest or conviction expunged.
Appointments for the clinic are encouraged but not required. Walk-ins will be accepted. To schedule an appointment, call (805) 902-CRLA or email [email protected].
