Helicopter crew rescues lost family on Hi Mountain Road
Helicopter crew uses infrared and night vision to locate hikers
– A helicopter crew rescued a family of three, including a five-year-old child, last week after they became lost while hiking on Hi Mountain Road, according to a Facebook post by California Highway Patrol.
The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance at approximately 7 p.m. A helicopter crew responded and used forward-looking infrared technology and night vision goggles to search the area. Crew members spotted the light from one of the hikers’ cell phone flashlights and landed nearby.
The crew hiked to the family and transported them to Santa Margarita Ranch, where sheriff’s deputies met them and returned them to their vehicle.
