– A 33-year-old Atascadero man died early Thursday in a single-vehicle crash on State Route 58 east of Red Hill Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officers received a call at approximately 2:48 a.m. reporting the crash. Upon arrival, authorities determined that Daniel LopezOrtiz was driving a 2006 Toyota Tacoma eastbound on State Route 58 at a high rate of speed. Due to the unsafe speed, the vehicle failed to navigate a curve in the roadway and collided with a tree at approximately 2:48 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
LopezOrtiz was the sole occupant of the vehicle and died at the scene. Authorities believe alcohol was a factor in the crash, according to a press release from CHP.
The incident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol’s Templeton office. Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Ryan Armstrong at (805) 400-6720 or [email protected].
