Road construction continues in downtown Atascadero through Friday
Access to businesses, driveways remain open
– Road construction in downtown Atascadero is underway this week, with work scheduled to continue through Jan. 24. Drivers are urged to proceed slowly and follow all posted construction signage.
Construction activities include milling pavement, installing pavers, and completing concrete work on curbs and planters in the medians of El Camino Real. Electrical and lighting work is also ongoing. Drivers should expect narrow travel lanes and traffic delays.
On Jan. 21, concrete barriers known as K-rails will be removed along El Camino Real between Highway 41 and Colony Cinemas near Huckleberry’s restaurant. Minor work will continue in the median in that area.
Additional work in the median will continue between Colony Cinemas and East Mall, with the K-rails on the east side of El Camino Real also set to be removed Jan. 21.
In the section of El Camino Real between East Mall and Traffic Way, construction in the median will proceed within existing K-rails.
Northbound traffic on El Camino Real near the Carlton Hotel will be temporarily reduced to a single lane at Traffic Way from Jan. 21 through Jan. 28 to accommodate work in the median. Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes during school drop-off and pick-up times if possible.
Starting Jan. 21, concrete K-rails will be placed along El Camino Real between Traffic Way and Virginia Plaza. Construction in the median within those barriers will follow.
Through traffic on El Camino Real will remain open, though it may be reduced to one lane in each direction at times. Access to businesses and driveways in the construction area will remain open throughout the project.
