Sculptor Salvatore Orlando to host stone carving demonstration

Event is free, open to the public
– Sculptor Salvatore Orlando, known for his approach to direct stone carving, will offer a free sculpting demonstration open to the public on Monday, Feb. 10, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Morro Bay Art Center, located at 835 Main St.
Orlando, who refers to his work as “an art of subtraction,” creates his pieces by removing material to reveal the form he envisions within each stone. Without using sketches or models, he develops his designs directly in his mind, guided by the characteristics of each unique stone. Recently, he has begun combining translucent stones from around the world, enhancing their natural colors and textures through illumination.
During the demonstration, Orlando will share his lifelong passion and insights into the art of sculpting with collectors, artisans, and stone enthusiasts.
The event, held in the workroom of the Morro Bay Art Center, is free and open to the public.
