Ebenezer Scrooge meets Sherlock Holmes in local staged reading
‘A Sherlock Carol’ will be performed this weekend only, Dec. 13-15
– By the Sea Productions has announced a holiday staged reading of “A Sherlock Carol,” written by Mark Shanahan and directed by Eve Symington. This performance combines characters from Charles Dickens and Arthur Conan Doyle, as Sherlock Holmes investigates the mystery of Ebenezer Scrooge’s death on Christmas Eve. Traditional holiday music will accompany the production.
The cast features Sidney Symington as Sherlock Holmes and Trevor Lawrence as Scrooge, with additional roles and voices performed by Chase Mullins, Lelia Symington, Janice Peters, and Jonah Duhe. Music is provided by Jim Symington.
This show marks the conclusion of By the Sea Productions’ seventh year as Morro Bay’s only live theater venue. Rev. Symington and his congregation at St. Peter’s By the Sea Episcopal Church originally welcomed the nonprofit theater group to build a stage in their community hall. Over the years, audience support, local donors, and city grants have funded additions such as stage lighting, a sound system, and improved seating.
The organization is preparing for its 2025 season, which will include five full shows and three staged readings. By the Sea Productions is also seeking volunteers to assist with set construction, lighting and sound operations, stage management, and other aspects of live theater.
“A Sherlock Carol” will be performed this weekend only, Dec. 13-15, at 545 Shasta Ave. Friday’s performance is sold out, but tickets are still available for Saturday and Sunday. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit bytheseaproductions.org or call (805) 776-3287.
