Win an e-bike and staycation while supporting The Rock

Fundraiser supports new power generator for radio studio

– The Rock Community Radio, a listener-supported, non-commercial freeform radio station, is fundraising to purchase a power generator for its studio.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has designated KEBF, 97.3 FM in Morro Bay, and KZSR, 107.9 FM in Paso Robles, as primary entry point facilities for Emergency Messaging from local, state, and federal authorities, in coordination with the California Office of Emergency Services. KEBF/KZSR is a critical communication link when cell or internet service is unavailable and access to information is limited to FM radio.

Hal Abrams, founder of The Rock, said the station is working to install a $12,500 generator to ensure reliable service during emergencies. “KEBF has been bolstering transmitter chain redundancies to ensure we can continue providing the residents of Morro Bay with critical communications in an emergency. This crucial link ensures Emergency Alerts are available to Central Coast residents in case of a power outage,” Abrams said.

To fund the installation, The Rock is raffling a Velotric Discover One e-bike, valued at $1,699 and donated by Red Tail Bikes, located at 890 Main St. in Morro Bay. The raffle also includes a Cambria staycation, featuring a two-night stay at the Little Sur Inn and dinner at Robin’s Restaurant.

Raffle tickets are available for purchase at The Rock booth at various events, including the Morro Bay Saturday Farmers Market. Additional locations include Mike’s Barber Shop at 280 Morro Bay Blvd., Tuesday through Saturday; Symbiosis Wines at 612 12th St. in Paso Robles, Thursday through Sunday; and Red Tail Bikes in Morro Bay.

Tickets are priced at $10 each, three for $25, or 15 for $100. The raffle drawing will be held live on the air at 5 p.m. on Dec. 26, with Morro Bay Police Chief Amy Watkins conducting the drawing.
