Prescribed burn near Santa Margarita aims to reduce wildfire risk

Prescribed burns planned this week

Burn runs through Friday

Cal Fire’s San Luis Obispo Unit, in cooperation with private landowners, the San Luis Obispo County Air Pollution Control District, and the San Luis Obispo County Community Fire Safe Council, is conducting a prescribed burn on approximately 112 acres of private land from Monday, Oct. 28 through Friday, Nov. 1.

The burn is taking place near the intersection of River Road and Parkhill Road, about 30 minutes east of Santa Margarita. According to Cal Fire, this controlled burn aims to reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfires by managing hazardous vegetation and promoting ecological resilience and biodiversity in the area.
