Learn bird communication secrets at Morro Coast Audubon Zoom event

Event will be presented by Nathan Pieplow, author of the Peterson Field Guide to Bird Sounds

– The Morro Coast Audubon Society (MCAS) will host a Zoom community program titled “The Language of Birds” on Monday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. The event will be presented by Nathan Pieplow, author of the Peterson Field Guide to Bird Sounds.

The program is free and open to the public, with no registration required. All ages are welcome to attend. To join the Zoom meeting, visit this link with Meeting ID 994 6733 5823 and passcode 912453.

Pieplow’s presentation will explore how birds communicate through their sounds, revealing the secret language that birds use to identify themselves and signal their actions. Attendees will learn how to interpret the communications of various birds, such as the “pillow talk” of Red-winged Blackbirds and the food signals of Cliff Swallows.

Nathan Pieplow is the author of the Peterson Field Guide to Bird Sounds, available in two volumes for Eastern and Western North America. He is a bird sound recordist and videographer, author of the bird sound blog Earbirding, a board member of the Bird Conservancy of the Rockies, and former editor of the journal Colorado Birds. Pieplow teaches writing and rhetoric at the University of Colorado in Boulder.
