Hot temperatures expected to continue through mid-week
Significant cooldown in the forecast by the weekend
– High temperatures are expected to linger in Atascadero through Wednesday, according to the latest forecast from Weather Underground. Monday’s forecasted high temperature is 97, followed by 97 on Tuesday, and 94 on Wednesday. Temperatures are expected to cool slightly by Thursday, with a forecasted high of 92. Friday’s forecasted high is 88. A significant cooldown is in the forecast by the weekend, with an expected high of 84 on Saturday and 83 on Sunday.
An excessive heat warning remains in effect until 9 p.m. Thursday for portions of California. Some areas are experiencing dangerously hot conditions with high temperatures ranging from 106 to 116 degrees, and very warm nights.
There is a high risk for dangerous heat illness, particularly for the very young, the very old, those without air conditioning, and those who are active outdoors.
Authorities advise residents to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, stay out of the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors. People are urged to avoid hiking in the mountains and hills. When outside, wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing, and limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
Take action if symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke appear. During outdoor work, schedule frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency; call 911.
Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles, as car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in minutes.
