Rotary Club hosts annual essay contest for 8th graders

Renee Betz took home the first-place prize

– The Atascadero Rotary Club recently hosted its annual essay contest for 8th graders from Atascadero Middle School, providing a platform for young writers to showcase their skills. Known as the “4-Way Test,” the contest challenged students to answer four critical questions: Is it the truth? Is it fair? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

This year’s winners were celebrated at a special luncheon held at the Atascadero Unified School District (AUSD) office on May 9. Superintendent Tom Butler and Rotary President Robert Borish awarded the winners with their cash prizes.

Renee Betz took home the first-place prize. Kaylee Holder earned second place, while Paloma Rodriguez secured third place.

The panel of judges included Superintendent Tom Butler, Atascadero Middle School history and English teachers, and Rotary Club members Robert Borish, Bob Tanaka, Loretta Butts, and Gaby Romo.
