Chamber of commerce's Jr. CEO program returns

Program inspires young minds

– The Atascadero Chamber of Commerce has announced the commencement of its 2nd Annual Jr. CEO program for 2024. This six-week digital course aims to educate elementary and junior high students on the fundamental aspects of initiating their own businesses. The program’s curriculum covers business fundamentals, cost models, safety/food preparation, marketing, customer service, and money management.

Led by local business leaders and Chamber staff, each session will feature a virtual presentation, complemented by an interactive workbook provided to participants. Josh Cross, President and CEO of the Atascadero Chamber, expressed enthusiasm about investing in future leaders by imparting relevant real-world knowledge through the program, emphasizing its potential impact on participants’ professional and personal success.

While many students are expected to utilize the acquired skills to launch hot chocolate or lemonade stands after the five sessions, others may apply the lessons to various business concepts such as jewelry, bookmarks, recycling, pet food, baking, etc. The program’s objective is to equip participants with basic business education that families can integrate into other learning opportunities.

Cross highlighted the versatility of the Jr. CEO coursework, emphasizing that students can apply the acquired skills to initiate diverse businesses according to their preferences. Anticipating a significant increase in attendance from the previous year, Cross expressed the community’s eagerness to witness the contributions of youth entrepreneurs to their community in 2024.

In 2023, the Jr. CEO program facilitated over 60 students in starting their businesses. The Chamber expects the attendance to double in 2024. The program requires a $25 tuition fee per student. Registration is open now. The final day to register set for Feb. 10. Those interested in sponsorship opportunities can contact Josh Cross, President and CEO, at (805) 466-2044.
