Atascadero Police Department acknowledges commander’s retirement
– In a recent Facebook post, the Atascadero Police Department extended congratulations to Police Commander Jason Carr on his retirement, marking the culmination of his 20-year tenure in community service. Carr, who commenced his career at the King City Police Department before joining APD, holds the distinction of having occupied every rank within the department.
During his tenure as a police officer, Carr served in various capacities, including patrol, detectives, motors, and field training officer. Notably, he contributed to the special enforcement detail as a SWAT operator. Following his promotion to sergeant, Carr assumed supervisory roles, overseeing numerous patrol shifts and serving as both the detective sergeant and administrative sergeant.
For the past five years, Commander Carr held a pivotal role in the department’s command staff, providing oversight for one of its two divisions. His responsibilities encompassed serving as the operations division commander, the support services division commander, and served as the interim chief of police during a portion of 2022.
One of Commander Carr’s achievements includes being honored with the Chief of Police Commendation for resolving the San Gabriel Road School Threats case in 2015. His impact and legacy are anticipated to have enduring effects on the community and the APD team, particularly in his integral role in the recruitment and hiring process.
