Reminder: Atascadero shop local program ends Dec. 31
– In an effort to boost the local economy this holiday season, Atascadero businesses are urging residents to participate in the Shop Local Business Program, which launched on Nov. 18 and will run through Dec. 31. Qualifying retail, restaurant, and personal service establishments, excluding grocery stores, hardware stores, fast-food stops, big box stores, and gas stations, are eligible for the program.
Research by the Business Alliance for Local Living Economies demonstrates the benefit to the local economy that comes from shopping locally: “$68 for every $100 spent at a locally owned business stays in the community. When spending the same at a non-local business like a national chain, only $43 stays in your community.”
“Shopping locally is one of the best gifts you can give to your community. Your purchases at local establishments support local families running the businesses and the employees working at them. Families will use that money to frequent other Atascadero shops and restaurants that, in turn, support their own families. It creates a beautiful cycle of giving during the holiday season,” said Josh Cross, Atascadero Chamber of Commerce president and CEO.
To qualify for the $20 gift card, shoppers must save readable and itemized receipts totaling at least $100. Receipts should include the date, business name, and total amount and must be from Nov. 18, 2023, to Dec. 31, 2023. Taxes, delivery fees, and shipping costs are excluded from the total purchase.
“Supporting local businesses isn’t just a purchase; it’s an investment in the heartbeat of your community,” says Atascadero Chamber Director of Membership Julie Matthews.
Shoppers are encouraged to submit receipts promptly, as the program is known to sell out. Each household is eligible for two free gift cards.
