Lions Club celebrates 40th car giveaway at Morro Bay Car Show
– The Morro Bay Lions Club celebrated its 40th car giveaway at the 27th annual Morro Bay Car Show and Cruise this month. The event showcased over 500 cars and attracted thousands of visitors from California.
Among the attendees was the Daniels family from Taft, California, who had applied for a free car from the Morro Bay Lions Car-Give-Away a week prior to the Car Show. On Saturday afternoon, just before the trophy awards, Matthew Daniels and his infant daughter Aurora were called to the stage by the Morro Bay Lions Car Director. They were awarded a 2011 Toyota Corolla. Daniels, visibly moved by the donation, expressed his gratitude. His wife Morgan could not attend due to illness.
The Daniels Family was selected by the Morro Bay Lions Foundation Board based on their need for a vehicle, their focus on assisting young adults with disabilities, and their commitment to giving back to their community.
The car giveaway program was established in 2014 by Bill and Mike Todd of Todd’s Garage and later joined by the Morro Bay Lions in 2017. Since its inception, the program has given away an average of one car every three months to individuals in need. The Morro Bay Lions Club and Todd’s Garage, a 501C3 tax-deductible organization, have also used the donations received to support initiatives such as providing food for the hungry, offering scholarships to local schools, conducting eye screenings, supplying glasses and surgeries, and assisting local charities.
