‘Disrupted Realism’ author John Seed to give lecture in Morro Bay
‘Disrupted Realism’ the first book to survey the works of 38 artists whose paintings ‘respond to the subjectivity and disruptions of modern experience’
– Morro Bay Art Association is set to host a free lecture by John Seed on May 8, from 3-5 p.m. Seed will discuss his recent book, “Disrupted Realism,” which examines the works of contemporary painters challenging and reshaping the tradition of Realism.
Seed, a Professor Emeritus of art and art history, taught at Mt. San Jacinto College for 31 years. He has written about art and artists for various publications, including Arts of Asia, Harvard Magazine, and The Huffington Post. He was also a featured expert in the Google Arts and Culture video series “Name That Art.”
“Disrupted Realism” is the first book to survey the works of 38 artists whose paintings respond to the subjectivity and disruptions of modern experience. Seed, a widely published author and blogger, believes that we are “the most distracted society in the history of the world” and has selected artists he sees as visionaries in this developing movement. While the artists’ impulses toward disruption are as individual as the artists themselves, all share the need to include perception and emotion in their artistic process.
The lecture will take place at the Art Center Morro Bay, located at 835 Main Street. Those interested in attending can contact (805) 772-2504 or visit www.artcentermorrobay.org for more information. This event is free and open to everyone.
