City shares road closure, detour information for Los Altos Road
– The City of Atascadero is evaluating road damage caused by the recent storm. The city has warned motorists to be aware of the areas affected and detours in place.
One such area is the 13800 block of Los Altos Road, located approximately halfway between Hwy. 41 and San Marcos Road, where a landslide occurred late afternoon on March 10. The road is currently impassable for through traffic, but all residents have access to their properties. The city has set up warning signs at the intersections of Hwy 41 and San Marcos Road, and motorists should use the following for detours:
- San Gabriel Road – Monita Road – Sierra Vista Road – San Marcos Road
- Santa Lucia Road – Laurel Road – Cenegal Road – San Marcos Road
The road will remain closed until debris is removed, damage is assessed, and repairs are completed.
While there were several reports of localized and seasonal flooding, no widespread flooding has been reported. The City’s storm facilities performed well thanks to preemptive efforts by city crews.
For storm-related issues such as flooding and downed limbs or trees in the streets, the City’s Public Works Department can be contacted during regular weekday business hours at (805) 470-3148. Outside regular business hours, residents can call Police Dispatch at (805) 461-5051.
For sandbags, Miners offers pre-filled sandbags, while Home Depot has regular empty sandbags available. Sand can also be obtained from the city’s Public Works Yard at 8005 Gabarda Road or Fire Station #1 at 6005 Lewis Ave, corner of Lewis Ave and Traffic Way. Residents are advised to bring a shovel.
