Buckley Road extension reaches completion
Extension took about a year to construct
– An extension to Buckley Road was recently completed in San Luis Obispo and aims to provide drivers, cyclists and pedestrians improved ease of travel.
Buckley Road has been extended from Vachell Lane to South Higuera Street to provide a more efficient connection from Highway 101 to Highway 226, as well as better access to the San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport.
The extension is a part of the Avila Ranch development, which is under construction just north of Buckley Road.
“We were able to approve the project plans for the Buckley Road extension in July 2021, and here we are nearly a year later with a finished project. This wasn’t a small task, but now we have a project that will support the connection of the Bob Jones Trail into the City of San Luis Obispo,” said Project Manager JR Beard. “It’s a good feeling to see these finished road improvements that will benefit the people of SLO County.”
The extension will also accommodate the future Caltrans campus.
The State of California, County of San Luis Obispo, City of San Luis Obispo, Avilla Ranch LLC, Whitaker Construction and the Wallace Group were all involved in the project.
