Construction begins for pavement rehabilitation project
Project begins at Traffic Way and Ardilla Ave.
– The City of Atascadero will begin the pavement rehabilitation project for three roadway segments: Traffic Way from El Camino Real to Ardilla Avenue, Ardilla Avenue from Traffic Way to Atascadero Avenue, and the public alleyway paralleling El Camino Real, north of Traffic Way.
The city’s contractor, Souza Construction, will begin work (storm drain culvert and curb ramp replacements) this week, with pavement reconstruction scheduled for next.
Pavement rehabilitation consists primarily of a mill and asphalt overlay, with full asphalt dugouts and replacement of failed sections, particularly those below the freeway overcrossing. Portions of this work are within Caltrans right-of-way and impact freeway ramp operations, so the majority of the pavement work will be completed at night to minimize traffic disruptions. Funds for this project are a combination of Urban State Highway Account (USHA) and Local Transportation Fund (LTF) monies.
As this project gets underway, the city reminds drivers as they enter these work zones to be safe and slow down through these work zones. This project is expected to be completed by the end of June.
