Bicyclists turn out for ‘Pedal to the Gardens’ event
Event designed to encourage more bicycle commuting in Atascadero
– Several dozen people rode their bicycles to work in Atascadero early Tuesday. They parked their bikes by the Rotunda for a free breakfast in the First Annual Pedal to the Gardens promotion. The intent is to encourage more people to commute on bicycles in Atascadero.
Ryan Betz of the Atascadero Public Works Department said city staff and volunteers helped with the event. Some of the city staff cooked pancakes for those who rode their bikes to the Rotunda. The city planners also put out maps of the plans to redesign El Camino Real through downtown Atascadero.

Ryan Betz of the Atascadero Public Works Department said the event will likely return annually.
The bicyclists pedaled to the Rotunda from 7:30 a.m. in the morning until 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. Betz says it will likely become an annual event to promote bicycling in the city.
