San Luis Obispo Museum of Art launches new event series

The event is free and open to the public
–The San Luis Obispo Museum of Art is launching a new program of events called “2nd Saturdays”, which take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the second Saturday of every month.
Complementing the museum’s current exhibitions, the monthly series will feature creative art-making activities for all ages and experience levels.
The event will take place on the lawn outside of the museum’s Mission Plaza double doors and will be free and open to all interested parties.
The event will begin Saturday, July 10, the event launches with an artistic activity corresponding with “Atmospheres Deep”, the museum’s current multimedia exhibition exploring ecology and environmentalism. “Gallery on the Go” art kits will be provided free to all participants and will contain paintable ocean-themed postcards with Spira algae pigment to be used for the watercolor painting activity. The activity encourages people to think creatively about the use of ocean byproducts and sustainable artistic materials.
“We’re excited to encourage our community to explore their artistic abilities with us during 2nd Saturdays,” said Leann Standish, Executive Director of SLOMA. “I can’t wait to be around people having fun and making art outdoors!”
The museum is located at 1010 Broad Street, on the west end of Mission Plaza in San Luis Obispo, California. It is a 501(c)(3) public benefit nonprofit arts organization dedicated to providing and promoting diverse visual arts experiences for people of all ages and backgrounds through exhibitions, education, creation and collaboration. Since 1967 this organization has been the beacon for the visual arts in its region.
