3 Fun Graduation Party Themes for 2021

To put it mildly, the last year has been challenging on a variety of levels for your high school or college senior.

From taking a majority of classes online, being cooped up at home more than usual, and trying to see friends in a socially distanced way, this has not exactly been an easy time for them.

So, now with graduation around the corner, you want to go all out and celebrate your son or daughter more than ever with a fun party with a special theme. For ideas on how to throw a memorable event, check out the following ideas:

1. He’s/She’s a Smart Cookie Decorating Station

Your kid is a smart cookie, so have some fun with that moniker by having a milk and cookies bar at the party. You can find graduation cookie cutters online and make your own diploma, cap, and student-shaped cookies with an easy sugar cookie recipe that only requires three ingredients. Then again, you can order graduation-themed cookies from a local bakery. And depending on what your son or daughter favors, you can also have trays of pre-made cookies set out on a table, along with an assortment of milk — both dairy and plant-based with plain and chocolate options — or you can leave the cookies plain and set out frostings and sprinkles for people to decorate their own.

2. A Candy Buffet

For graduates with a major sweet tooth, you can’t go wrong with a school-themed candy buffet. For example, set out an assortment of ring pops to represent the class ring, bowls of Smarties for the brainiacs, gummy worms for the bookworms in the crowd, and Big League Chew bubble gum for the athletes. You could also custom-order M&Ms in your son or daughter’s school colors and have those available as well. Then, buy a bunch of clear plastic jars and print out labels with something like “(Graduate’s Name’s) Sweet Party.” To help make this fun theme as safe as possible, ask someone to don gloves and help with the candy table, filling up the jars with whatever candy each guest requests.

3. Sports Theme

Maybe your daughter played soccer all throughout school, or your son was a terrific cross-country runner. If this is the case, a sports-themed party would be a great idea. You could order a cake that resembles a soccer or football field or baseball diamond and serve cookies in the shape of a jersey with your kid’s number on them. In addition to whatever food he or she asks for, offer sports drinks like Gatorade and shop for sports-themed plates, cups, and napkins. You can also have a variety of fun, sporty games for your guests to play, including foosball, badminton, or volleyball.

A Few Words about Announcements

During the party, be sure to take a bunch of photos of your teenager and guests having a great time. Then, when you order graduation announcements to send to friends and relatives across the country who couldn’t join you for the festivities, use one of the photos from the party in your photo graduation announcement cards. This way, the announcements will be more personal to your son or daughter’s interests.

Celebrate Your Graduate — He or She Deserves It!

After getting through a rough final year of school, the graduate in your life definitely deserves a fun party with an entertaining theme. From school-related cookies and candies to all-things sports or whatever else they like, you’ll be sure to host a memorable and enjoyable party for your son or daughter and all your guests.
