Former treasurer convicted of embezzlement from high school FFA non-profit

–On Feb. 5, Nipomo resident Chandra Dee Mehlschau, 48, pleaded no contest to felony embezzlement from the non-profit Ag Friends. Sentencing is scheduled for March 19, in Department 10 of the San Luis Obispo County Superior Court.

Ag Friends is a non-profit organization associated with the Nipomo High School FFA that provides scholarships and other educational opportunities to students interested in leadership in the field of agriculture.

It was alleged that Mehlschau stole approximately $11,000 from Ag Friends between Dec. 15, 2015 and April 10, 2018, while working as treasurer for the non-profit.

As part of the resolution, it is anticipated that Mehlschau will be sentenced to 90 days in jail and placed on three years of felony probation. Mehlschau will be required to pay restitution for the money taken.

The case was investigated by the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office and was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Danielle Baker.
