Greyhounds defeated by Bearcats in last game of regular season
–The Paso Robles Bearcats prevailed 28-24 despite a heroic effort by the Atascadero Greyounds in Friday night’s final game of the regular season.
Hunter Barnart threw a 66-yard touchdown pass to Marshall Weisner on his first throw. Later, he connected on a 29-yard TD to Kaden Gallany.
Meanwhile, Greyhound running back Stephen Reyes was grinding out the rushing yardage. He ran for 203 yards on 38 carries.
At half-time, the teams were tied at 21-21. Then, Bearcat QB Hunter Barnhart went down with an injury. Sophomore Braden Waterman came in to play quarterback for the Bearcats.
Neither team scored in the third quarter, but the Greyhounds kicked a go-ahead field goal in the fourth.
In the final minutes of play, Waterman led the Bearcats down field. With 1:05 left in the game, Braden hit Seth Maldonado with a 36-yard touchdown pass. That proved to be the game-winner for the Bearcats.
The Greyhounds Westley Cooper led his team downfield, but with only seconds on the click he was intercepted inside the red zone by Mark Martinez to seal the Bearcat victory.
Paso Robles improves to 1-3 in the Mountain League, 3-7 overall.
The Greyhounds end the season with a record of 0-4, and 0-10.
The Templeton Eagles relied on running by Shane Simonin and passing by Jack Trimble to score two quick touchdowns against Nipomo. Shene scored twice in the opening quarter. But after taking a 14-0 lead, the Titans held the Eagles scoreless and racked up 56 points. They won 56-14.
Nipomo won the Ocean League title and advances to the CIF-CS playoffs.
Templeton ends the season with a 2-3 record in the Ocean League, 3-7 overall.
