—Friends of the Atascadero Lake hosted the third annual Lakefest 2018 on Saturday, May 19 with contests and activities for the whole family. Visitors could participate in stand up paddleboard races, cardboard boat races, and enjoy a beer garden; in addition, younger visitors had plenty of kids activities.

“It turned out to be a beautiful day and perfect temperature and attendees had a really great time,” said Atascadero city manager Rachelle Rickard at the May 22 city council meeting.

The cardboard boat races are unique in that contestants must build a boat using cardboard and duct tape. The winners are determined on not just speed, but also style. The Open Class winners are captain Bailey Aiello (12 years old), Adam Armet (7 years old), and Chloe Aiello.
